Questions to Ask During Your Interview

It’s the big day and you’re feeling nervous. ‘What will they think of me? Am I what they’re looking for? What questions will they ask?’

So much emphasis is put on the candidate delivering in an interview and if you are right for the job. Have you thought about whether the company is right for you? Will the company meet your expectations? This is your chance to find out. Interviews are a two-way process and thinking about this can help relieve those pre-interview nerves!

The interviewer should take the lead initially and towards the end of the interview, they should give you the opportunity to ask your own questions.

So what questions should you ask? We have come up with a few questions to ask during your interview, to help you prepare:

1) What is the long-term plan for the company? This will give you an insight into possible growth / expansion plans and the company’s vision.

2) Is training offered to staff for development? Is the company committed to helping you grow and develop?

3) Describe the culture of the company and its day to day environment? This is somewhere you are going to spend a large amount of your time. It is good to know if it’s the sort of place you are going to be happy in.

4) What is the typical career path for someone in this role? It is worth knowing if there is potential to progress within the company.  Do they normally promote internally?

5) Is this a new position or am I replacing someone? It’s helpful to try to find out what the previous employee went on to do. Did they progress within? Did they have a career change? Or is this a new job role?

Hayley, our Director of Sales says; “Having questions to ask shows you have prepared and thought about what you want to get out of the interview. Rather than use the same ones, use a bespoke question for each company. Looking at the company’s news page or social media platforms, will help you find out more about the business, the team and events.”
