18 Aug Neaves & Neat Interview Tips
Interviews can be a nerve-wracking time, especially when it’s a chance to land that dream job. Check out our interview tips to help calm your nerves before the big day.
Before your interview, one of the most important things to do is research the company. Get to know how long they have been around, learn the details of their business, familiarise yourself with the job description and research the backgrounds of the interviewers. Look at the company’s social media feeds, along with the news and events sections of their website so you can be right up to date. With all this prior knowledge, make sure you throw a couple of mentions into your interview so they know you have been doing your research!
Keep your answers positive and be honest about your skills and experience. Even if you get the question ‘what is your weakness?’, turn it into a positive, by recognising it as an area that you would like to work on and explaining how you aim to improve.
Transferable skills are key. If the interviewer asks about something you don’t have direct experience with, try to think of a similar skill you have used elsewhere that could be transferable. Think of some questions and practice your answers before you go so you are prepared!
Have at least one good question. Asking questions at the end of the interview, especially job or company specific, is aways a positive as it shows that you are keen and eager to learn.
Make sure you leave the interview with all the information you need. An interview is a two way street – it’s as much about you choosing them as it is about them choosing you so don’t be scared to ask questions about the job role and responsibilities.
