Our 2017 Christmas Charities: East Anglian Air Ambulance

The team at Neaves & Neat Ltd believe in supporting local charities and as Christmas approaches; they decided to donate a portion of their Christmas budget to two chosen charities. This year, we are proud to support East Anglian Air Ambulance and Beads of Courage.

Choosing two charities out of the numerous organisations was not an easy task, but as the team contemplated which charities to support this year, they felt it was appropriate to choose charities which had actively made a difference to their own personal lives and without the support from these particular charities, their lives could have been very different.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance is a charity providing a helicopter emergency medical service for the civilians of East Anglia. Since their launch in 2000, they have attended over 21,000 lifesaving missions and this year, they have an average of 200 missions per month. Today, the charity provides advanced clinical care 365 days a year from two bases in Cambridge and Norwich providing aid to Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

“We need you today – You may need us tomorrow.” – East Anglian Air Ambulance

This motto encapsulates perfectly the importance of donating and supporting this charity. The East Anglian Air Ambulance relies entirely on the generosity of supporters to maintain their helicopters and continue saving lives. This charity is in constant need of our help and in return, we may need them in the future.

The doctor and paramedic teams at the East Anglian Air Ambulance attend to patients with life-threatening, life-changing and medical emergencies such as road traffic collisions and cardiac arrest. This year, this medical emergency became a reality for a few of our colleagues at Neaves & Neat as one of their close friends suffered a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest. The Air Ambulance arrived within ten minutes of receiving the call for help. The efficiency and speed at which the air ambulance operates, is far superior to regular emergency services such as the NHS. Furthermore, the critical care paramedics and trauma doctors have received additional specialist training in pre-hospital critical care and are often consultants in anaesthesia or trauma. Therefore, they are able to provide a level of treatment to the patients before they arrive at a hospital. As a result, the critical care which the East Anglian Air Ambulance administered to the close friend before she arrived to the hospital resulted in saving her life.

A meeting with Chris Donaldson the Area Fundraising Manager was made to speak to the team about the service that the East Anglian Air Ambulance provides and the impact the donations will make to both the charity and the surrounding community.

“We are honoured that Neaves & Neat Ltd have chosen to support us in this way.  These valuable funds will be used by our teams of Trauma Doctors and Critical Care paramedics to help victims of accident and medical emergency throughout our region”Chris Donaldson (Fundraising Manager).

The team at Neaves & Neat have been inspired and are extremely grateful for the service that the East Anglian Air Ambulance provides. They will also be attending a convention at Ely Cathedral on 30th November 2017 to continue their support of the charity.

Finally, this post is to raise awareness of the incredible work that local charities provide for the community. If you are able to support or donate, this will allow charities to continue their services within the local community.
